Lisa Walker (she/her), PhD, C. Psych. - Principal Investigator
Dr. Walker obtained her PhD in Psychology at the University of Windsor. She has worked as a Clinical Neuropsychologist at The Ottawa Hospital for over 20 years. She provides consultation services in an acute care in-patient setting where she conducts cognitive assessments for diagnostic, treatment planning and functional purposes, as well as capacity assessments under the Health Care Consent Act. Dr. Walker is also a Clinician Investigator with the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute where she has a research program evaluating cognitive health in multiple sclerosis. She co-leads the Neurodegeneration Pillar and the Multiple Sclerosis Research Group with the University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute. She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at the University of Ottawa, as well as an Adjunct Research Professor with both Psychology and Cognitive Science at Carleton University. She also has a private practice where she provides neuropsychological evaluations.
Jason Berard (he/him), PhD - Clinical Research Program Manager
Jason Berard is the Clinical Research Program Manager for the Neurocognitive Testing Service. He received both his B.Sc. in Psychology and PhD. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Ottawa. Jason has completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in cognition in multiple sclerosis and is also a Part-Time Professor in Psychology at the University of Ottawa. His research interests include: the neuropsychological assessment of cognition, the evaluation of cognitive fatigability and the development of a behavioural intervention designed towards its improvement, the examination of longitudinal changes in cognition, cognitive outcomes following hematopoietic and mesenchymal stem cell therapies, as well as evaluating the relationship between cognitive outcomes and biological markers of MS disease progression.
Tamanna Islam (she/her), MSc - PhD Candidate, Psychology
Tamanna Islam is a doctoral student in the Experimental Psychology Program at the University of Ottawa. She completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Psychology. Tamanna's research aims to identify and address the needs of those with multiple sclerosis (MS). In addition, she is currently working on developing behavioral and procedural interventions targeting cognitive fatigability for people with MS. Dr. Walker's work has left an indelible mark on her. She is dedicated to continuing Dr. Walker's legacy by leveraging her learning experiences.
Jordan Pumphrey (she/her), BSc - MA Student, Psychology
Jordan is a student in the Master of Arts in Psychology program at Carleton University. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Ottawa, during which she completed her Honour's Thesis and two summer contracts under the supervision of Dr. Walker. MS research is close to Jordan's heart as both of her parents live with MS, and she is excited to be continuing her work with Dr. Walker and the lab. She is particularly interested in how cognitive and mental health are impacted by MS and other chronic illnesses, and her work aims to identify accessible interventions that may be of help. She also enjoys cooking, exploring local markets, and playing with her cat, Quinn.
